What's Halfway?

"Halfway" is the geographic midpoint between two or more locations. It is the fairest place to meet because everyone travels roughly the same distance. Rather than one person doing all the driving, meeting halfway means the journey is shared equally.

For two people, the halfway point is straightforward: it is the exact centre between both postcodes. For groups of three or more, we calculate the centroid, which is the single point that minimises the total distance everyone has to travel. Think of it as the "centre of gravity" of your group's locations.

Of course, the geographic midpoint might land in the middle of a field or on a motorway. That is why this calculator also searches for nearby hotels, cafes, restaurants, and pubs, so you can find a practical venue close to the fairest meeting point.

How the Halfway Point Calculator Works

Finding a fair meeting point can be tricky, especially when people are travelling from different parts of the country. This calculator takes the guesswork out of it by computing the geographic midpoint between your locations using spherical geometry, which accounts for the curvature of the Earth.

Simply enter 2 to 5 UK postcodes, and we will geocode each one to find its exact coordinates. The calculator then computes the centroid (the point that minimises the total distance to all locations) and displays it on an interactive Google Map. We also search for nearby cafes, restaurants, pubs, and hotels so you can find a practical meeting venue or overnight stay.

The Hotels & Stays tab shows accommodation near the halfway point, including Premier Inn locations with direct booking links. Other hotels link to Booking.com where you can compare prices and availability. This is particularly useful for business meetings, catching up with friends who live in different cities, or finding a fair location for group events.

You might also find our Working Days Calculator helpful for planning when to meet, our Days Until Calculator to count down to your meetup, or our Hotel Budget Calculator to estimate accommodation costs.
