If you use your personal vehicle for business journeys, your employer can pay you a certain amount tax-free. These are known as Approved Mileage Allowance Payments (AMAPs), and the rates are set by HMRC to cover fuel, wear and tear, insurance, and other running costs. Claiming Tax Relief
If your employer pays you less than the approved HMRC rate (e.g., they pay 30p per mile instead of 45p), you can claim tax relief on the difference. This is called Mileage Allowance Relief. You can make a claim using a P87 form or through a Self Assessment tax return.
