How to use this Calculator Site tool

Enter your total pension contributions for this tax year and the previous three. Then, input your annual salary to check for tapering. The calculator will determine your available allowance, including any carry forward, and calculate any potential tax charge on excess contributions.

Understanding the Pension Annual Allowance

The pension annual allowance is the maximum amount of pension savings you can make in a single tax year that benefit from tax relief. For the 2026/27 tax year, the standard annual allowance is £60,000. This limit applies to the total contributions made by you and your employer. Our free UK pension calculator helps you stay on top of these rules.

If you don't use your full allowance, you can often carry forward the unused portion for up to three previous tax years. This is particularly useful if you are planning to make a large one-off contribution. This Calculator Site tool automatically factors in your carry forward options.

Important Note on Tapered Annual Allowance

For high earners, the annual allowance may be reduced. If your 'adjusted income' is over £260,000, your allowance is 'tapered' down by £1 for every £2 of income over the threshold. This can reduce your allowance to as little as £10,000. Our calculator accounts for this tapering.
