Understanding Your Wedding Drink Needs

The Welcome Reception

The welcome drink sets the tone. Typically lasting an hour, you should aim for 1.5 drinks per guest. Prosecco or Champagne are classic choices. Having a non-alcoholic option like elderflower pressé is a thoughtful touch. This initial period is when guests are arriving and mingling, so consumption is usually higher.

Wine For The Meal

The standard UK measure is half a bottle of wine per person for the wedding breakfast. This is a good average, as some will drink more and some less. As mentioned in our FAQs, a 50/50 split of red and white is safe, but you can adjust this based on your menu. Don't forget to factor this into your overall wedding budget.

The Evening Bar

This is where costs can escalate. If you're providing drinks, assume one drink per person for the first hour, and then one drink every two hours thereafter. Offering a mix of beer, wine, and soft drinks is standard. To manage costs, consider providing a limited number of free drinks then switching to a cash bar. This links closely with your catering plans.
